Philanthropy & Service

Official Philanthropy - Reach Out and Read

This organization serves as our fraternity’s national initiative. Medical doctors who participate in this program give each child a new, appropriate book to take home with them to serve as a catalyst for healthy childhood development. We support them by raising money, hosting book drives, as well as reading to kids when we are able. A few years ago, we won our national service grant and built a reading room for Reach Out and Reach at Christ Community Health. This year we were granted the service grant again and donated supplies such as books, cookbooks, and a kid's grocery store to Church Health. Through this, we hope to bring Reach Out and Read's mission to Church Health.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation

The Psi chapter is a proud supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. 'Tens of thousands of volunteers, donors and supporters advance the Make-A-Wish®vision to grant the wish of every child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. In the United States and its territories, on average, a wish is granted every 37 minutes'. Each year, Kappa Psi strives to raise money to grant the wish for these children.

Her Wish

With the help of our Brothers and community, the Psi Chapter granted a wish for 5-year-old Nicohl through Make-A-Wish Mid-South. Nichole, a sweet little girl from Mexico, loves soccer and the movie "Frozen." Members of Kappa Psi decorated the building with a Disney-themed party on Friday, October 30, 2016. The next morning, Nicohl and her family left for her wish to go to Disney World!

At the Disney party hosted by the College of Pharmacy, students dressed in various Disney characters to greet Nichol as she arrived at the college. She was able to even spend time with her favorite Disney princess, Elsa. Nicohl was able to play her favorite sport, soccer, with members of Kappa Psi. Afterwards, she opened presentes provided by Make-A-Wish and ate cake. Connor Stuart, Kappa Psi Regent at the College of Pharmacy said it took a few fundraising events, such as successful karaoke nights, to provide enough funds to make the wish come true.

Karaoke on Beale Street

To help raise money for The Make-A-Wish Foundation, our Brothers take to Beale Street to go sing karaoke at Alfred's bar. Throughout the night, our Brothers challenge people to go sing a song for $5, to not sing cost $10! This is our biggest fundraiser for our Philanthropy.
